More about the Center and our community.

The Effect of Local Pet Food Pantries

Pet food pantries are popping up all over the country, hoping to provide relief to families struggling to afford groceries as prices continue to rise. Plenty of families in the Journey Home Animal Care Center service area have had trouble making ends meet at some time or another, and in response we instated our pet food pantry to close the gap. The JHACC pet food pantry has scheduled mobile sites throughout our service area; and community members can visit our facility in Rifle at any time to request a bag of food.

Pantries like this help to prevent families from feeling like they need to surrender their animal due to temporary budget concerns, and can help them get their pets food that is appropriate for their dietary needs. Our pet food pantry is entirely community supported, driven by donations of wet and dry food throughout the year. This also means that when food runs out, we can no longer provide it to families in need. That’s why throughout the year we also encourage donations of any kind of cat or dog food to our facility. JHACC also receives donations from corporate entities like Target, Petco and more to help supplement our community food stores.

Already in 2025, our pet food pantry has distributed 3,624 pounds of food back into the community through our three mobile pantry sites and our primary Rifle facility.

Pet Food Pantry Policies

In order to benefit from the Journey Home Animal Care Center pet food pantry, participants are only required to list their name, which town they live in, and how many animals JHACC is providing food for. When requesting from the pantry, please consider that this resource is shared by the communities from Parachute to New Castle and beyond. Request what is needed for your animals, and our team will do their best to accommodate ages and brands as much as possible.

If you would like to support your local pet food pantry, JHACC encourages you to donate cat or dog foods of any kind. Wet or dry, fancy or cheap. In addition to donations of packaged food, our community can offer financial donations or advocate for Journey Home with local pet stores or grocery stores to include pet food as part of their donations.

Thank you to our community partners for donating to our pet food pantry: Target, Tractor Supply, Clark’s Market, Walmart, RJ Paddywacks, and all of the individual donors hoping to make a difference.
