Our community at Journey Home includes volunteers, donors, and local business partners. However one of our most dedicated forms of donors doesn’t get enough credit. Humane Heroes are our donors who go the extra mile to provide for animals in need of care and shelter.
Donors referred to as Humane Heroes are those who give a monthly donation of $10, $25, $50 or a larger amount. The donations are made via a digital subscription, which charges monthly to a credit/debit card or checking account. These recurring donations help us to pay for medical bills and food on a reliable basis, and are regular funding we can count on.
We currently have 50 Humane Heroes, each donating anywhere between $10-$500 per month! According to our Executive Director Heather Grant, Humane Hero donations are a “consistent source of income, which helps fulfill our mission”.
Donating on a monthly basis is a convenient, easy and efficient way to provide help for animals in our care year-round. Such donations allow for JHACC to tackle sudden medical cases in a timely manner, so that animals can receive specialized treatments such as echocardiograms, severe dental surgery, or significant amputations that are quite expensive. These also assist with our budgeting, allowing us to spend more time and energy to make fundraising events that the overall community finds engaging and true to who they are!

“Why have I been a Humane Hero for over 9 years:? 1. I am lazy and having the automatic donation made every month is easy. 2. Again, because it is easy to help JHACC with my monthly donation. 3. Again, I’m lazy and I don’t have to try to determine where my donation goes, JHACC does it for me. I like the ease of being a Humane Hero and I like being lazy. ” – Natalie B.
“I give monthly because I believe humans are stewards of the earth. We have a duty to care for our planet, which includes animals, especially those we have domesticated and are no longer wild. Being a humane hero is a way for me to do my part. I can donate more by donating monthly than by doing a once a year donation.” – Julie L.
As you can tell, our Humane Heroes choose monthly giving for a variety of reasons! Some like it because it keeps causes they adore close to them, others love the convenience, and still others consider it to be an important of the good they do for the world around them.
When you become a Humane Hero, Journey Home Animal Care Center will provide you with an acknowledgement letter at the end of every year. However, if you would like an acknowledgement letter mailed to you each month, we are happy to. Please contact Heather at (970) 625-8808 or heather@jhacc.org.
