Home for the Holidays Fostering

Lights are twinkling and chilly weather is prompting all of us to spend time closer to our warm hearths with loved ones. This fall and winter, consider opening your home as part of our Home for the Holidays foster program!

Home for the Holidays is ideal both for experienced fosters and for volunteers who have been wanting to try fostering. If you’re spending holidays alone or find yourself with more free time than usual, fostering during this period may be a great way to engage in the holiday spirit. Thanks to the fact that this program is designed to be short-term fostering, it is the perfect way for busy people with only a few days to spare or inexperienced fosters that may be intimidated by fosters with longer-term timelines.

Our staff at Journey Home Animal Care Center are loving and capable of caring for our resident animals, but even they need a break near the holidays. When community members foster a dog or cat in their homes, that is one less animal for our Operations staff to care for and more time for them to spend with their families. These animals also benefit from the time in a home, with the socialization and one-on-one attention that fostering provides. Foster families are very helpful in gaining new information on how a dog or cat will adjust to a home, and how their behavior may shift in a new environment. We appreciate and encourage opportunities for our animals to learn more tricks or manners, and to get time in public to meet new possible adopters.

If you are interested in fostering an animal as part of our Home for the Holidays program, contact Shelter Operations Director Morgan Woolard at Morgan@jhacc.org. Fill out the foster applications on our website (Click Here for Dogs) (Click Here for Cats), and note that you are interested in fostering during Home for the Holidays.
